JOB PURPOSE
We are looking for a specialized professional in the field of wine and beverages for the role of Sommelier on board our ships.
Your primary role is to curate and manage the wine program for the restaurants, we offer to our guest Coordinating with the Dining Operations Manager.
They possess extensive knowledge of different wines, including their regions of origin, production methods, flavor profiles, and appropriate food pairings.
The Sommelier on board oversees the inventory of all wine lists and trains of all dining service and bar colleagues in order to meet revenue targets assigned.
You should stay updated with industry trends, attend wine events, and continuously expand their expertise to provide exceptional service and create memorable dining experiences for guests.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Sommeliers are responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive wine list, which involves selecting wines from various vineyards and suppliers.
They collaborate with chefs and restaurant crew to recommend wine pairings that enhance the dining experience for guests. This requires a deep understanding of flavor profiles, regional cuisine, and the ability to suggest suitable wine options based on guests' preferences and budgets. In addition to wine selection and pairing, sommeliers also manage the wine cellar, ensuring proper storage conditions, inventory management, and rotation of stock.
Increases wine sales by demonstrating personal attention, applying appropriate selling techniques and focusing on customer needs.
During service, sommeliers play an active role in engaging with guests, offering recommendations, describing wines, and assisting with the selection and serving of beverages. They are expected to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to educate and guide guests in their wine choices.
You are in charge of inventory of wine and produces reports.
QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)
• Fluent English, oral and written. Any additional European language is considered an advantage (Italian, Portuguese, German, Spanish and French);
• Sommelier certificate (WSET LEVEL 3 or similar)
• At least 1 year experience as Sommelier in 4/5 star restaurant, hotel or resort
• Excellent knowledge of fine wines and premium beverages
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for hospitality and customer service driven
• Computer literacy
VISA REQUIREMENTS (if any)
Possess a valid passport and when possible a seaman book copy.
Cruise industry experience is an advantage;
STCW95 certification is compulsory (basic fire fighting, personal survival techniques, elementary first aid, personal security and social responsibility);
A recognized medical certification is required before starting to work on board.
