Administration of Crew wages, immigration, customs documentation, crew sign-on and sign-off, Medical visits, issue of crew guarantee letters (return documents) and general business relating to ship’s personnel. Care and administrative management of the Crew in a spirit of non-discrimination and fairness.
ensure that the appropriate port officials receive all required lists in the time specified by various frontier officials. Ensure that all joining crew embark with the required documentation. In co-operation with the Chief Crew Steward, retrieve Passports, Seaman’s books, Copies of contracts and other associated documents from joining Crew, and to retain these in a locked area for safekeeping until required. In emergency situations, the Crew Purser is responsible for the safety of these documents.
Distribute any information booklets, a copy of the Captain’s Standing Orders, Orientation booklet, dress Regulations and other instructional literature when Crew sign on. Inform the Company and the Senior Officers of the ship about all Crew arrivals. Ensure that all disembarking Crew have their required documents to leave the Ship and the country of disembarkation (if they are from a foreign country). Enter all new crew information into the Fidelio system as soon as crew members join the vessel. Maintain and update Crew files as needed, including notes on discipline, penalties, and notes of commendation and recommended promotions. Prepare notices for Crew (regarding pay days, signing-off, dry-dock rosters etc.) displaying these notices on Crew noticeboards. Maintain a permanent record of penalties imposed by the Master for transmission each month to the Company. Perform all crew payroll functions, including issuing wage slips to crew, and preparing for the Hotel Manager any necessary communications to Head Offices concerning payroll related matters.
